Controversial Fetal Stem Cells… Are They The Answer For Arthritis Treatment?

At the fetal stage, which is well beyond the embryonic stage, stem cells are referred to as, well, fetal stem cells.  They are multipotent.  They are no longer pluripotent.   Because they are partially differentiated, their ability to become any type of tissue is now limited.  However, certain populations of embryonic stem cells, called mesenchymal stem cells, have drawn a great deal of interest because of their capacity to differentiate into connective tissue (bone, cartilage, etc.). These cells are still very useful for tissue engineering, meaning they are more than capable of being used to repair cartilage, treat arthritis, and overall be effective for stem cell therapy.  Their availability because of political and religious reasons is limited.
